Typical of Asian country, Indonesia is blessed with rich culture thanks to its many islands which differ from one to another. Balado is one of many delicious Minang cuisine of West Sumatra in Indonesia. Balado is made by stir frying the hot and spicy spices mixture, such as chili pepper, garlic, shallot, tomato and sometimes involve lime juice or palm oil. Literally, Balado means “with chili”, and there are many type of Balado, from Chicken Balado, Squid Balado, Eggplant Balado and more. This recipe will give you spicy alternative way to enjoy hard boiled egg like never before.
Steps
1 Done | BOIL THE EGGSPlace the eggs in a large pot and cover them with cool water by 1 inch, make sure the pot is large enough to lay eggs in single layer |
2 Done | Once the water boiled, lower the heat into medium heat and cook the eggs for 6 minutes. |
3 Done | FRY THE EGGSCover the peeled eggs with paper towels and dry carefully without bruising them. Make sure there is no water remains to avoid oil splatter while you fry the eggs. |
4 Done | Heat vegetable oil in the frying pan over medium high heat, 165 C or 330 F. |
5 Done | Remove the eggs from the heat and gently place on paper towel and sit them to remove the excess oil. |
6 Done | THE SAUCE (BALADO)Use a food processor, blend altogether the garlic, chili peppers, shallots, candlenuts and tomato. |
7 Done | Heat the oil over medium high heat to stir fry the blended sauce, add in a pinch of salt and sugar. Continue stir for awhile. |
8 Done | To serve, plate the eggs with the balado sauce. Garnish them with fresh raw tomatoes and cucumbers, or eat with hot steamed rice. |
