Directions
One of unique food in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia is Tempe (tempeh) and it’s made from fermented soybeans. There are several ways to cook and serve Tempe, one of it is battered fried. Tempe is vegan friendly and rich of protein.
FRIED BATTERED TEMPE
Cut tempe into thin slices, about 0.5 cm thick.
Using a food processor, finely grind all the ground spices.
Transfer them into a mixing bowl and add in the cornstarch and wheat flour. Add the water and mix well together. Set aside.
Chop the scallions and add into the flour batter in mixing bowl, and mix together.
Dip and cover the tempe slices into the flour batter one at the time until fully covered.
Heat oil in the frying pan over medium high temperature. Fry the covered tempe for 1 or 2 minutes, or until the batter turn into yellow.
Remove from heat and transfer to paper towel for removing the excess oil. Serve while still hot with spicy dipping sauce if desired.
SPICY DIPPING SAUCE
Slice the bird's eyes chilies and transfer them into a small bowl, mix with sweet soy sauce, and salt if desired.
