Beef kebabs are a popular and flavorful dish made by skewering marinated pieces of beef and grilling or roasting them until they are tender and delicious. The marinade infuses the beef with a rich blend of spices and flavors. Here’s a basic recipe for making beef kebabs:

Ingredients:

For the Marinade:

  • Beef: You can use cuts like sirloin, ribeye, or tenderloin, cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes.
  • Olive Oil: Used as a base for the marinade.
  • Garlic: Minced garlic adds a rich flavor.
  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice provides acidity.
  • Spices: A blend of ground cumin, paprika, ground coriander, ground black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne pepper for some heat.
  • Salt: For seasoning.
  • Fresh Herbs: Chopped fresh parsley, cilantro, or mint can be used for added freshness.

For the Kebabs:

  • Skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes before using to prevent them from burning on the grill.
  • Bell Peppers and Onions (optional): Cut into chunks for skewering with the beef.

Preparation:

Here’s how to make beef kebabs:

For the Marinade:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, freshly squeezed lemon juice, ground cumin, paprika, ground coriander, ground black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt.
  2. Add the beef cubes to the marinade and toss them until they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate. For even better results, marinate for 2-4 hours, or overnight in the refrigerator.

For Assembling and Cooking:

  1. Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat.
  2. If you’re using wooden skewers, make sure they’ve been soaked in water for about 30 minutes to prevent them from burning.
  3. Thread the marinated beef cubes onto the skewers, alternating with bell pepper and onion chunks if desired.
  4. Brush the skewered beef and vegetables with any remaining marinade for extra flavor.
  5. Grill or broil the beef kebabs for about 10-15 minutes, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking. Cook until the beef reaches your desired level of doneness (medium-rare, medium, etc.).
  6. Remove the beef kebabs from the grill or broiler and let them rest for a few minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or mint.
  8. Serve the beef kebabs hot with your choice of sides, such as rice, salad, pita bread, or yogurt sauce.

Beef kebabs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be customized with various marinades and served in different ways. Whether enjoyed as a main course or as part of a larger meal, they are perfect for outdoor barbecues or gatherings with friends and family.
