
Basic Mashed Potatoes
Make sure not to over beat the potatoes as they may become gluey

450 grams Russet potato8 to 10 medium size

2 tablespoons Butter

240 ml MilkOptional

Directions
Mashed potatoes are usually at the top list for the foods to avoid due the calories on it despite plain potatoes are low in calories. With this recipe in your hands, turn mashed potatoes become healthy diet by controlling the creaminess. Adjust the amount of butter and milk to suit your needs!
Peel potatoes and cut into quarters and place them to saucepan, add enough water to cover.
Add 3/4 teaspoon of the salt and place over high heat to boil.
Reduce the heat to medium low and allow the potatoes to gently boil for 20 to 25 minutes or until potatoes tender when pierced with a fork.
Drain the potatoes.
Return potatoes to saucepan over low heat and allow them to evaporate out more water, it takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Turn off the heat and start to mash potatoes with potato masher until no lumps remain.
Add butter, pepper and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Continue mashing and gradually add hot milk to make potatoes smooth and creamy if desired.
Serve while hot and garnish with chives or parsley if desired.
